John 21:1-9 Even Failures Have a Future A pastor once stood before his colleagues and gave a raw, unexpected testimony. “I’m a lay pastor of a small, stagnant church,” he said. “I’m not ordained. I have no seminary training. I was asked to leave two colleges. I’m divorced and remarried. I can be a real jerk to my wife and kids. I’m terminally insecure, which I mask with arrogance. I avoid people when they irritate me. I’m impulsive, inconsistent, and I make promises I can’t keep.” He continued, “My walk with Christ is a stuttering, stumbling mess. One moment His presence overwhelms me to tears; the next, I can’t find Him at all. Some days my faith feels unshakable. Other days it’s knocked around like a paper cup in the wind.
